The Story behind the Charleston Tracker
As a passionate mahjong player, I spend countless hours around the table each week—both in competitive games and casual gatherings with friends and family. While the game itself is incredibly fun, I noticed one challenge that seemed to come up again and again: keeping track of the Charleston.
Whether it was forgetting had we gone first left yet or which direction was next, the Charleston could quickly create confusion and slow down the game. Even experienced players would occasionally second-guess themselves.
That's when I came up with the idea for the Charleston Tracker.
The concept is simple: the dealer for each round is assigned the tracker, which clearly indicates the next Charleston direction. By providing a visual reminder throughout the passing process, the Charleston Tracker helps keep everyone on the same page, eliminates confusion, and ensures the game moves smoothly.
Most importantly, it keeps the game honest, organized, and focused on what matters most—having fun around the mahjong table.
What started as a solution for my own games has become a tool I hope makes mahjong easier and more enjoyable for players everywhere.
